January's Bead Journal Project

Today I finished January's project. My decision was to make an outfit with some type of beading on it each month for my American Girl Doll and then write a short story about it. This is Samantha and she's a thirty year old career girl who lives and works in Washington, D.C. She was invited to a Chinese New Year's party at her boss's home and decided that this outfit would be the perfect choice. The fabric for the top is brocade trimmed in silk charmuese and the wide legged pants are made from the same silk fabric. The belt was beaded with Swarovski crystals and #11 sead beads.

  1. What a grand idea!!! Makes me want to sew doll clothes again. That's how I learned how to both sew and make patterns back a million years ago. But I haven't made doll clothes since I was 11 or 12 years old. Hmmmmmm... Your Samantha is certainly ready to make a big hit at her Chinese New Year party!

  2. This is adorable! It makes me remember when I was 12 and "too old" to play with dolls. My best friend and I spent all summer making doll clothes for our eight inch dolls. Thanks for helping me remember.

  3. Gita, this turned out beautiful! The little story that goes with Samantha about why she needed this outfit is charming. I've had the privilege of seeing other lovely apparel you've made in person, so it's not a surprise this is so nice. I love the beading on the belt. It's the perfect finishing touch!
